WHAT IS CHOPPED AND SCREWED?
Chopped-and-screwed music grew from a Houston, Texas tradition of slowing records down and carefully repeating, cutting, and rearranging selected beats, words, and phrases. Traditional speed changes also lower pitch. The result can feel slower, heavier, and more immersive.
It’s more than simply slowing a song — it’s a creative technique shaped by timing, selection, and expression.
